Willing Suspension Productions Ltd. presents P.O.V.

Background

I was contacted by an old University friend named Tom Clark early in 2006 who wished me to design and develop a site for him so that he could begin earnest promotion of a film he had recently directed and edited. The film is entitled P.O.V. and follows the interactions between four friends as they try and determine whether it is possible to capture true human behaviour on camera.

It started life as a play called the Tapes that ran at two venues across London to critical acclaim. Tom then built upon the knowledge he had taken away from the whole play experience as he created the characters and searched for the cast. He was also fortunate to secure the services of world-renowned cinematographer, Phil Meheux, who agreed to work with them throughout the entire filming and production process.

Putting the site together

Tom provided me with some good quality photos and stills from the film, which I was able to manipulate within both Photoshop and Illustrator as I put the site together. The majority of the work was done in Illustrator and I created full page layouts for approval before commencing development.

I used a different shot from the movie as the background image for each page, fading them to white as they were shorter than the content itself. The homepage contains some background about the story and further shots from the film. There's also a page that goes more into the background of the film making process itself.

As the site is used as a showcase for the film, there is naturally a page in which you can download and watch three QuickTime movie clips from the film. Finally, a contact page enables potential interested parties to get in touch with Willing Suspension for further information about rights to the film. The contact page uses the System.Net.Mail namespace to fire an email off to Willing Suspension and redirects the visitor to a thankyou page. The site is built in ASP.NET 2.0 and C#, and uses a Master Page template for ease of maintenance. All the layout is controlled via CSS.
