Dr Foster Intelligence
As lead developer for Dr Foster Intelligence I was responsible for the day-to-day management of the web team and suite of customer facing websites. These were both internal and external, so requests could come in from a variety of sources. I was very much relied on to determine the technical direction for the team whenever new projects came about.
As a result, I was given free reign to decide upon the best way to tackle a project, and was able to insist upon initial design and architecture for projects large enough to warrant it. It is important to architect a system, using UML or a similar architecture, before commencing development so that you have a blueprint for the overall workings of the system before you concentrate on the detail, much in the same way as you would draw up plans for building a house before you start laying the foundations.
