Cityspace
Cityspace provided me with my first foray into the management arena. Within six months I had been promoted to Senior Developer and tasked with mentoring and managing the Interactive Services development team, consisting of myself and two other developers.
As a department, the Interactive Services Group (ISG) were responsible, both technically and editorially, for all content that was deployed across the iPlus network, a network of free at point-of-use, local authority funded, on-street kiosks that provided the public with a range of services that were constantly accessible.
The iPlus kiosks displayed content from a variety of sources, accessible via a touchscreen interface. Content channels must be designed and architected in such a way that users of the kiosk interface can get to the information that they require within as few touches as possible. Users spent on average 30 seconds at the terminal, so content had to engage the user sufficiently that they could get to the information they needed quickly and easily.
